Trevor Noah was born on the 20th February 1984 in Johannesburg, Transvaal, South Africa.  His father, a Swiss-German is a white man.  His mother, Patricia, is Xhosa, a black woman.

The title of Trevor’s memoirs, “Born A Crime”, is a statement of the situation Trevor was born into during the apartheid political rule which was strictly enforced in South Africa for many years.

It is incredible that under apartheid rule, Trevor was classified as a “coloured” person, his mother and extended family are “black”.  He could have been removed from their care, to be brought up and educated as a “coloured” citizen.  The family kept his existence secret for many years in order to be sure the authorities couldn’t remove him from them.

This story of overcoming prejudice, the legal system and a life amongst the abject poverty of people who have suffered at the hands of white people for decades.

Inspirational, motivational and an example of not being dragged down by mistakes of the past.

In 2018, Noah launched the Trevor Noah Foundation to improve equitable access to quality education for underserved youth in South Africa. Noah’s vision is a world where education enables youth to dream, see and build the impossible.

PRAISE FOR BORN A CRIME – *

An engaging, fast-paced and vivid read . . . Essential reading not only because it is a personal story of survival, leavened with insight and wit, but because it does more to expose apartheid – its legacy, its pettiness, its small-minded stupidity and its damage – than any other recent history book or academic text – GUARDIAN

It’s no surprise that Trevor Noah, the slyly suave successor to Jon Stewart as host of The Daily Show, should write a smart book. But ‘smart’ doesn’t begin to cover what he pulls off in Born a Crime . . . Noah’s memoir is extraordinary . . . essential reading on every level. It’s hard to imagine anyone else doing a finer job of it – SEATTLE TIMES
