We are entering a new Golden Age of space exploration. With irrepressible enthusiasm and a deep understanding of the cutting-edge research in space travel, World-renowned physicist and futurist Dr. Michio Kaku presents a compelling vision of how humanity may develop a sustainable civilization in outer space.

He reveals the developments in robotics, nanotechnology, and biotechnology that may allow us to terraform and build habitable cities on Mars and beyond.

He then journeys out of our solar system and discusses how new technologies such as nanoships, laser sails, and fusion rockets may actually make interstellar travel a possibility.

We travel beyond our galaxy, and even beyond our universe, as Kaku investigates some of the hottest topics in science today, including warp drive, wormholes, hyperspace, parallel universes, and the multiverse.

Ultimately, he shows us how humans may someday achieve a form of immortality and be able to leave our bodies entirely, laser porting to new havens in space.

Human civilization is on the verge of living beyond Earth. But how will it happen? World-renowned physicist Michio Kaku takes us on a journey to the future, introducing the mind-boggling developments in robotics, nanotechnology and biotechnology that will one day enable us to make our homes among the stars.

‘With admirable clarity and ease, Kaku explains how we might colonize not only Mars but some of the rocky moons of the gas giants Jupiter and Saturn . . . The book has an infectious, can-do enthusiasm’ Steven Poole, The Wall Street Journal

‘Kaku grounds his readers in science happening right now, while throwing open the windows to imagine where it might lead in a thousand years’ Adam Frank, The New York Times

Through millennia, mankind’s ancestors have been expanding their reach and knowledge of the territory we occupy.

Hunter-gatherers expanded their range to adapt to growing populations needing food and shelter.

Uncertainty  inspired settled communities who learned to plant, harvest and store food enabling further population growth and the ability learn new skills, which in turn developed new areas of brain activity.

Surplus food, tools and perhaps animal pelts could be traded with another community, which led to further exploration of man’s world, on foot or over water.

Evolution seems to progress steadily, then blossom, possibly at times of hardship, driving the acquisition of new skills and the search to overcome problems.

The wheel enabled mankind to travel further and transport the food and tools needed for exploration.

Taming animals to draw wheeled transport and carry mankind was a leap of progress.  The comprehension of tidal currents and weather patterns led to marine exploration and development of new habitats.

In recent history, engineering development has led to travel through the air in airplanes.  Jet propulsion has taken mankind to the moon and our space probes to more than 15 billion from Earth.

This explosion of human evolution is truly phenomenal and it is a privilege to be alive at this point in the 21st century.

My longtime antipathy towards smart-phones which enabled mankind to photograph their genitalia, breakfast and dog opening the front door, then posting it online for thousands of other people to waste their time viewing it has now been overturned.

The quality of photographic and video recording on personal phones and the ability to post it online has enabled mankind to ask “what is this?”

The question of whether earth is being visited by extra-terrestrial explorers has arisen throughout history.  Previously, one person might view a phenomena but his inability to accurately record this event in order to investigate it has thwarted research.  Sceptics mocked stories of unexplained aerial phenomena, national security policies tried misleading the public.

Now, with high quality photos and videos recorded and posted online, they are in the public domain.  Anyone can watch the videos and experts can analyze them to reveal if they are genuine phenomena or sophisticated hoaxes.

From ridicule to growing acceptance of an unexplained phenomena within the space of a decade, people will accept the reality that Earth’s humankind will become a member of the interstellar population.

We may soon look back with disbelief that for centuries mankind was so arrogant to believe in racial superiority.

There is a growing acceptance of the possibility that we have neighbours on other planets.  There is growing public acceptance of the possibility that earth is being visited or monitored by an extra-terrestrial civilization.
