MEET LIBBY MORRIS, ECOLOGIST, WILDLIFE ILLUSTRATOR AND FOUNDER OF LITTLE PLOVER GREETINGS CARDS AND STATIONERY

In September 2024, I was leaving my local pub in Henfield when a lovely young lady spotted the small Kingfisher, RSPB emblem I wear on my coat.

She is the first person who has ever commented on it and I was compelled to stop and ask her how it had attracted her attention.

That was when I met Libby Morris who is a passionate ornithologist, ecologist and the illustrator of the book “Tits, Boobies and Loons”, written by Stuart Royall.

Libby is a qualified and practising ecologist and uses the knowledge that she has gained to create hundreds of illustrations of birds, insects and plants to spread the joy of nature!

Her greetings cards are unique – using a blend of illustrations, wordplay and annotations:  you don’t simply get a nugget of nature-based information from each design, you get a beautifully crafted and sustainably produced piece of art that you can either send to spread the love, or keep for yourself.

Libby began “Little Plover” in 2015.  She depends on her drawings created in the field in order to commit them to memory.

This vast collection of sketches has now been turned into  greetings cards with identification notes so that other people could use them too.

If, like me, you and your family have enjoyed any Wildlife Trust or RSPB days out, you will probably already be familiar with the amazingly detailed illustrations of Libby Morris.  Not only is her art used for illustration and educational purposes, her considerable portfolio of birds, wildlife and flora has now been transformed into beautiful greetings cards and stationery.

Her work is sold in galleries, shops, nature reserves and heritage properties all over the UK including The Turner Gallery.

Now, with over 5,000 greetings cards sold, you can buy Little Plover products in shops, garden centres and galleries across the UK including the RSPB, Turner Gallery and the Wildlife Trusts. Since 2015, Libby has licensed illustrations to organisations such as the Museum of Rural Life and the White Mill Heritage Centre, illustrated a natural history book for HarperCollins and run illustration workshops for over 250 people.

Libby is a qualified freelance ecologist managing and participating in projects across West and East Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire.  A member of The RSPB, Sussex Ornithological Society, Henfield Birdwatch and the Sussex Botanical Recording Society, Libby is in danger of growing feathers and her art is proof of her affinity with all British bird species.

We are fortunate in Sussex to have quite generous funding for scientific studies of our wildlife as it is an important indicator of wider trends in the environment across the UK.

Libby has absorbed this environment and captured nature within all of her artwork in fresh and natural settings which photographers would struggle to recreate.

A keen artist and photographer, I love to include my pictures with my posts whenever appropriate. I've been designing web-sites for over 20 years and with all the great tools available now, I just keep designing to make the most of the new technology.
