Giving My Bedroom A Stylish Makeover

I have found one colour scheme which would suit my bedroom: the Instagram post shows one wall painted dusky pink, which would really cheer my bedroom up.

Young or old, our bedroom is a place of refuge from the stresses of life.

As children, bed is home to our collection of furry friends, as teenagers, furry friends are replaced by cushions to lounge around on and when we think we are grown up, bed becomes a stylish centrepiece of our bedroom.

I’ve lived in this flat for seven years now and over time, I’ve bought new bedding and curtains to give a lighter, brighter feel to what is quite a small space with an east facing window.  On sunny mornings, the room feels bright and cheerful, giving me an energetic start to the day.  I have a large mirror on one wall and a small one opposite the window, both of which help to brighten the room as well as give it a more spacious feel.

Before my holiday, I planned to redecorate and replace my carpets over the next twelve months.  However, returning to my flat after two weeks of clear blue skies and sunshine, I was struck by the lack of light in my home.  It didn’t bring me warmth and sparkle, if those are quite the right words for how I felt.

I’ve only been home for five days and I’ve spent a lot of that time asleep in bed recovering from jet-lag and readjusting my body-clock, but I have been on Pinterest looking for design ideas.

I was attracted by many of the styles, but realised that what attracted me is the large rooms which lend themselves to great versatility, but my bedroom is only just large enough for my double bed.  Having space to fit furniture which combines style with functionality is a luxury I miss in my one bedroom flat.

I am looking for inspiration for my clothes storage.

My wardrobe is on it’s last legs, a plain white chipboard cupboard with a shelf and hanging rail.  I’ve never been happy about it’s capacity or the practicality of such a long hanging rail that when I filled it’s length, it repeatedly collapsed, hurling all my clothes out on the floor.

I have been drawing some wardrobe arrangements which would be perfect for my clothing needs.  I don’t need very much hanging space because I don’t wear dresses very often.  I do need shelves or drawers for all the sweaters I wear all year round.  My jeans and tracksuit trousers also need shelving, aswell as my T-shirts.  I want some drawers for my tights, underwear and some lingerie which only comes out on special occasions.

This is a rough idea of my wardrobe plan.  I want sliding mirrored doors.  With sliding doors, I gain the space I currently lose to allow for the doors to open outwards.  Mirrored doors will give me the feeling of more light, reflecting the window opposite to them.

My current wardrobe measures, depth 50cm, width 81cm and height 170cm sitting on 10cm legs.

I like this Gaba, White Series 100cm Sliding Door Wardrobe from amazon.co.uk.  It has a 4.2 star rating out of a possible 5 stars, which is not bad for the price of £279.00.

The specifications come close to what I’m looking for except there are no drawers but there is plenty of shelf space which is what I’m looking for.

The price is £279.00 which is reasonable, although it is self-assembly.  I will not be leaping into any decision right away.  My bedroom plan began when I learned that Amazon Prime is having a “Big Deal Days” sale, exclusive for Amazon Prime members.  I bought a TV last summer in the Prime Day Deals with 40% discount.  I had needed a new TV since the start of the year, but when I saw that TV at almost half price, I took the plunge and bought it.

I’m hoping that I will find a wardrobe this time which I will fall in love with and be unable to resist.
