LITERACY AND NUMERACY
Fluency in the English language and confidence doing arithmetic are key skills which open the mind to all other subjects. Success in a world which is changing and developing increasingly rapidly requires a focus on critical thinking, and the ability to analyze information.
The ability to read well is a tool for life.
Literacy and numeracy empowers and liberates people. These key skills improve lives by expanding capabilities, opportunities, which in turn reduce poverty. With increased knowledge comes the confidence to explore sources of information opening avenues of educational possibilities.
While traditional literacy skills like reading and writing remain essential, the future demands a focus on critical thinking, media literacy, and the ability to analyze information from various sources.
Individuals need to be able to discern credible sources from misinformation and propaganda, and to understand the biases and perspectives embedded in different forms of media.
In the UK, an increasing number of parents are home-schooling their children. The reasons for this option vary enormously and for some, it is less of a choice and more, a necessity.
Children with special educational needs can struggle with main-stream schooling despite the provision of a designated “Statement of Educational Needs” which aims to ensure schools can meet the needs of the child. Every child is constantly growing and changing. Sometimes, other children’s interactions and relationships fail to include those they perceive as different. Other times, the child just fails to progress and flourish leaving them feeling increasingly isolated.

Pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds aren’t less able, but they have less access to the tools that support them to progress in school and reach their full academic potential.
As parents, our hopes for our children are that their lives will be better than our own.
We try to choose the schools which are rated highest in the hope that our children will be given the highest quality education available to us.
We aim for an education which will give them skills, knowledge, intelligence and enforce the moral standards which we have instilled in them.
Giving every child the opportunity to access a fulfilling education is too much responsibility to leave in the hands of educational professionals. Parents and guardians need to make their own judgement because they are the people who know their child best. Sometimes, an education targeted at passing exams is not in the child’s best interest.
Intelligence and knowledge are not about a vast library of facts. That factual information is now at their fingertips with the use of the internet. Intelligence is about how we organize that information to create a rich and detailed understanding of our world.
